Minivan Collides with MARTA Bus, Injuring Seven in DeKalb County

On Tuesday, December 14, 2010, a rush-hour traffic accident occurred involving a MARTA bus and an automobile. Several people in the car and bus were injured and taken to an area hospital for medical care. Authorities say that this accident occurred on Candler Road close to I-20 on Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m.

The vehicle involved in this Georgia crash was a minivan. The wreck occurred in DeKalb County, and local police investigated the crash scene following the accident. Authorities believe that the driver of the minivan will be cited, since the minivan hit the MARTA bus on Candler Road.

A total of seven people were injured and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Four of the victims who sustained injuries were children. All victims have been reported to have non life-threatening injuries. The four children were taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding for treatment of their injuries. One adult was taken to DeKalb Medical Center, and the other two adults injured in the crash were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Another MARTA bus was brought over to continue the bus route. Authorities closed down Candler Road for a short time to clean up the scene and for further investigation of the Georgia car and bus accident.
