Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident Due to Drunk Driver

On Monday, March 21, 2011, a female motorist in an SUV crashed into a bicyclist in a hit-and-run accident in Leesburg, Georgia. According to authorities, the accident occurred around 8:20 p.m.

Jeffrey Haire, the bicyclist who was injured in the Georgia bicycle crash, was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. He was wearing a reflective vest and had the proper lights on the front and rear of his bicycle.

The woman who hit the bicyclist took off. However, the driver's boyfriend wanted to do the right thing, so he went to the Lee County Sheriff's office to turn his girlfriend in to the authorities.

The Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested 25-year-old Mia Register on Tuesday for hit-and-run with serious injury, failure to report the accident with injury, endangering a child, and charges of drunken driving.

At the time of the accident, Register was driving a 2002 Mazda Tribute SUV and traveling with her boyfriend and her 7-year-old son. When she hit the bicyclist, she claimed that she thought it was a trash can or mailbox.

Thankfully, Haire was wearing a helmet and was last listed in good condition, according to the hospital.
