Drunk Driver Kills Recent Georgia Tech Graduate in Atlanta Crash

On May 30, 2011, a drunk driver hit and killed a motorcyclist in a deadly Atlanta crash. Atlanta police officers indicated that the fatal accident took place on Monday night in the Little Five Points neighborhood of Atlanta.

Liam Rattray, the motorcyclist killed in this wreck, was struck from behind. He was knocked off of his bike, flew through the air, and landed in the roadway, where he was hit by another car. The fatal Atlanta accident took place on Moreland Avenue near The Vortex restaurant.

Rattray was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died from the catastrophic injuries he sustained in this motorcycle crash.

Darrin Murphy, the 42-year-old driver who hit Rattray, was charged with first-degree homicide, driving under the influence, and following too closely. Murphy was arrested in October 2009 in the Atlanta area for a DUI as well.

Sadly, Rattray had just graduated from the School of Public Policy at Georgia Institute of Technology with the highest honors. He also won an award as one of the college's most outstanding students.

Kalka & Baer is deeply saddened to hear about this tragedy, and we would like to send our condolences to Liam Rattray's family and friends during this very tough and emotional time.
