July 4th Accidents and Boating Under the Influence BUI

Boating fatality on Lake Sinclair due to alcohol- Mark Baxter died after another boat hit into his pontoon boat during July 4th weekend 2006.

Heading to the nearest lake becomes highly popular for families and friends during the summer months. This is particularly true for celebrating the 4th of July. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources launched a campaign in 2009 called "Operation Dry Water" to help control the amount of people who boat under the influence. Operation Dry Water usually picks up in late June, during the height of boating season. The July 4th holiday is also a high traffic day for lake waters, and Rangers work especially hard to secure safe waterways.

In 2006, a July 4th celebration on Lake Sinclair left one man dead. Mark Baxter was taking a nice boat ride with his family to watch the fireworks when a drunken boater plowed into the family's boat. Both Mark and the drunken boat operator died as a result of thia tragic accident.

Historically, there are many automobile accidents that ocurr over the July 4th Holiday Weekend. Please contact Kalka & Baer to learn what to do if you were involved in an accident.
