Bike Riders and Cyclists injured because of Drunk Driver

n August 2010, a drunk driver struck and killed a cyclist in Rockmart, Georgia. The cyclist was struck near the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Hunter Street. The cyclist died because of the injuries to his head, chest, and abdomen sustained in the accident. The driver that struck the cyclist took off after the accident. Employees at a nearby Garden Inn & Suites called law enforcement and described the car that took off from the scene. A car matching the description given was pulled over shortly after the accident and determined to be the car that hit the cyclist based on damage to the car. The driver was charged with first degree vehicular homicide, open container, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident.
