Kalka & Baer represents Bike Crash Victims at Piedmont Hospital

Piedmont Physicians works to keep their patients informed about the safety risks involved in Bicycling, In-line-skating, and skateboarding. They have posted for viewing on their website, statistics about who, when, where, and why people are sustaining injuries when involved in these activities. The statistics provide that nearly 50 percent of children under 14 who are injured on a bicycle are hospitalized and diagnosed with a brain injury. They state that motor vehicles are involved in more than 90 percent of bicycle related fatality. The statistics show the majority of adolescent bicycle crashes happen between the months of May and August and are most likely to occur from 3pm-6pm. Also, the majority of these fatal bicycle accidents involving children under the age of 14 are because of the cyclist's behavior. This age group is five times more likely to sustain injuries in bicycle related accidents than any other age group. Also, riding without a helmet increases the risk of sustaining a head injury in a crash 14 times. Encourage your children to educate themselves on the proper riding techniques when sharing the road and always have them wear a helmet.
