Trendy Off-Road Vehicle Poses Deadly Risk
According to CBS, the popular Yamaha Rhino ATV can tip over causing injury and even death. According to one Rhino rider, his Rhino ATV just started to rock and then tip over, crushing his wrist.
This accident resulted in the loss of his hand. At the time, the rider says he wasn't on sand dunes or ripping around tight turns, he was driving less than 15 miles per hour on flat ground when his 1,000 Rhino just tipped over. CBS has learned that there have been at least 440 Rhino-related injuries and deaths across the country. According to some riders, if the rider just leans to the left, the Rhino tips over. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cites hundreds of reported injuries including broken bones, crushed legs, crushed arms and crushed heads. These incidents often happen on level ground and at low speeds. Yamaha is fiercely defending the Rhino and argues that virtually all accidents are due to operator error.
