ATV's, Kids and Danger

The CBS early show has launched an investigation into ATV sales. In April 2010 there were 40 deaths on ATV's, of these 40 deaths 12 of them were children under 16 years old. In May 2010, 13 children were killed in ATV accidents. CBS is urging ATV riders to take precautions to stay safe. ATV's go fast, some as fast as 50 miles per hour. There are more than 25 million ATV riders in the United States. According to the organization Concerned Families for ATV Safety, each year, roughly 100 children under the age of 16 is killed in an ATV accident, and 40,000 more children are injured. Many of these crashes involve children riding adult sized ATV's.ATV ChildrenAccording to a spokesperson for the ATV Safety Institute in the hands of a child ATV's are potentially fatal. These ATV's often contain warning labels, but a recent investigation by the Federal Government found that in 4 states, 7 out of 10 dealers are willing to sell adult-sized ATV's to children. The ATV Safety Institute is urging parents not to buy adult sized ATV's for children under the age of 16.
