During a recent weekend, two separate crashes in Gwinnett County involved fatalities. The first happened on Saturday, August 27, 2011, on Buford Highway, and the second occurred on Sunday on I-85.
The Saturday accident happened in Doraville around 2 a.m., when Mario Villa-Anguerro, 43, of Atlanta, was riding in a vehicle that attempted to turn left into oncoming traffic from Buford Highway to Global Forum Boulevard. The vehicle was hit by another car.
Villa-Anguerro was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Luis Chauca-Morales, the driver of the vehicle Villa-Anguerro was in, apparently fled the scene after the wreck, but he was captured soon after. He was charged with first degree vehicular homicide, DUI, and hit-and-run.
In the other Gwinnett County accident that weekend, 47-year-old Jennifer Cakora, of Auburn, died after being ejected from a 2002 Ford Explorer. Authorities said she was driving southbound on I-85 near Duluth Highway when she lost control of her car, striking a wall around 12:30 a.m.
Cakora was critically injured and taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she also died. Authorities indicated that speed was most likely the reason for her fatal injuries.
Kalka & Baer would like to remind Atlanta drivers to never drive under the influence or speed. We are saddened to hear of these fatalities, and would like to extend our condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
