According to reports, Houston was traveling on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on his way to an investigation scene near West Lake Avenue and MLK when he crashed his cruiser into a pole across from the Westview Cemetery.

The police cruiser was heavily damaged in the crash, and Houston was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical care for his head injuries.
