As many people were starting their New Year’s Eve celebrations on Saturday afternoon, one family was sadly mourning the loss of their family member. Jeff Porter, head athletic trainer for the Atlanta Braves, was behind the wheel of his vehicle in downtown Atlanta when a Georgia State Patrol cruiser collided into his car at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue.
Porter was driving a Ford Expedition traveling northbound on Capitol Avenue with his family when the patrol car hit his SUV around 4:40 p.m. The cruiser collided into the passenger side of the vehicle, and the force of the impact sent the SUV into a utility pole
Kathy Porter, 54, was killed at the scene of this tragic Atlanta auto accident. Jeff Porter and two other passengers were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. The identities of the two passengers were released to include Mr. Porter’s son David, 19, and another passenger Courtney Ann Williams, 18.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local agencies are continuing to investigate the cause of this deadly accident. They have indicated that the state trooper’s lights and siren were activated at the time of the crash. The trooper was in route to assist another police officer attempting to stop a motorcycle.
The Kalka Law Firm would like to remind everyone to drive with caution over the holidays. We would also like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Porter and wish those injured in this Atlanta car accident a full recovery.
