Motorcyle Accident Attorneys Explain How Safety Gear Helps Prevent Accident Injuries

In some cases, you can prevent motorcycle injuries by wearing the proper safety gear. The proper, protective clothes and accessories can hinder serious injuries and maybe even fatalities. Motorcycle gear that riders should be wearing every time include:

  • A motorcycle helmet – probably the most important piece of gear, it prevents brain and head injuries and is required by Georgia law
  • Proper footwear – shoes should have a good tread on the soles to prevent slipping
  • Gloves – help keep a good grip on your motorcycle’s handles and protect your hands in event of a crash
  • Motorcycle jacket and pants – not only protective against weather and road debris but also against road rash from an accident, which can burn a motorcyclist’s skin badly

In 2000, 3.9 percent of all crash fatalities involved a motorcycle. Six years later, data showed a whopping 8.69 percent of crash fatalities involved a motorcycle, as reported by Georgia Department of Transportation’s 2008 Crash Analysis Statistics & Information Notebook.
