Alpharetta Auto Accident Claims Life of Cumming Man

On Wednesday, April 11, 2012, a fatal Alpharetta auto accident occurred on northbound Ga. 400, north of Haynes Bridge Road. According to the Alpharetta police, three vehicles were involved in this fatal crash that took place around 10:21 a.m.

When police arrived on scene of the accident, they found a driver dead from his injuries. After their initial investigation, they stated that it appeared that a red Honda Civic had been traveling in a lane adjacent to a maroon Nissan Pathfinder when the Civic left its lane and collided into the Pathfinder. Upon impact, both drivers lost control of their vehicles and slid into a grassy area next to the northbound Haynes Bridge ramp.

When the two vehicles left the entrance ramp to Ga. 400 from Haynes Bridge Road, the Nissan continued sliding and struck a white Dodge minivan that was headed down the ramp. The Nissan continued out of control and overturned several times down an embankment and came to rest after striking a guardrail.

Police reported that the driver of the Nissan, 67-year-old Edward Kivlin of Cumming, died at the scene of the wreck near Haynes Bridge Road. The driver of the Honda Civic was reported to have suffered injuries and was transported to North Fulton County Hospital for medical care. The driver of the minivan is reported to be uninjured.

The entrance ramp and some of the lanes on Ga. 400 were closed for cleanup and investigation, but they reopened by 2:30 that afternoon.

Because of the fatal injuries suffered in this Alpharetta auto accident, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate this accident and will shut down the entrance ramp and some of Ga. 400 lanes to investigate this crash fully.

Kalka & Baer would like to wish the family of Edward Kivlin our deepest condolences for their loss.
