Getting to Know Tony Kalka

#1: What made you choose a career in personal injury law?

My first job out of law school was defending insurance companies. I saw first hand how injured folks are treated by the insurance industry and wanted to do something to help people, rather than what I was seeing be done to them.

#2: In your opinion, what sets your firm apart from other firms in the area?

Our firm is unique in that all cases are round tabled and strategized. We don't take every case that walks in the door. Our selective process helps us maximize the value of each case for our clients.

#3: Tell us about a case that you are particularly proud of:

Camp V. UFI Trucking. Our client rear ended a tractor trailer in the middle of the night. The Truck had no lights and was in a dark area. Mr. Camp suffered horrible injuries. No one could find a helpful witness; however, we tracked down an off duty officer who was coming off his shift for the county that stopped by to help. He had since moved to Beaufort, SC. I loaded up my entire family and we went to South Carolina. My family hung out at the beach until I could track down the officer. I had a portable power pack in the back of my truck and printed out an affidavit in the parking lot of the county jail. Thanks to this witness we proved that the truck driver was negligent. To this day I remain in touch with the family and once a month I drive 30 minutes so that Mrs. Camp can cut my hair.

#4: What steps do you take to prepare for a difficult case?

We set a goal that we consider our finish line and we map out each step it will take to cross the finish line. This process can fill up white boards, but it is a successful practice.

#5: How do you view your role in the attorney-client relationship?

A friend, confidant, and advisor.

#6: How does your experience in the personal injury field benefit your clients?

Our experience helps with brand equity of our firm and the relationships we have built along the way. Lawyers, Judges, and Doctors all know that my word is good and that we built our practice on trust. New clients benefit from the trust we have built in the community.

#8: What types of personal injury claims do you specifically handle?

I handle catastrophic cases that warrant my expertise.

#9: In your opinion, what is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect is that after a case settles I have a new friend for life. I have helped someone through a difficult time in his or her life.

#10: What advice do you most often give your clients & why?

There is something cathartic about closure of a case and the healing process it has on my clients. I remind clients that closure on this chapter is life's way of giving that person a new beginning and a fresh start.
