Info about Kennesaw

The Georgian city, Kennesaw, is part of Cobb County in the greater Atlanta area. The United States Census Bureau estimates its population to be around 30,000, about 64% of these reporting their ethnicity as White, and 22% reporting Black. The average income of each household is around $60,000, with 11% of their population being under the poverty line, which is 4% lower than the national average of persons living in poverty.

Kennesaw was originally formed as a railroad shanty town, dubbed "Big Shanty". It was eventually turned into a camp for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, because of its ideal location by a fresh water supply and close proximity to the railroad. At this time, there were still no permanent structures except for the famous Lacy House, the town boarding house. During Sherman's notorious "March to the Sea", the Lacy house was burned to the ground in November, 1864.

After the war, the devastated city began to grow slowly as the town was rebuilt. When the Western and Atlantic railroad was rebuilt in the 1880s, the town expanded substantially, prospering primarily from the railroad shipping industry. The City of Kennesaw was officially born in 1877.

The city now has its own historical exhibits like a Civil War era locomotive, called "The General". The General was first made famous when Union spies stole it from the Confederates right in front of Kennesaw. They would have been successful if not for a faithful conductor who chased it down with another locomotive called "The Texas", which ran in reverse. In the 1950s, Walt Disney Productions decided to produce a film about this tale, sparking renewed interest in the city.

Crime and Injury

During the 1980s, the city passed a law requiring "every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunition", catapulting the city again into national news. After its passage, the burglary rate dropped tremendously, and the crime rate remains low. Currently, the violent crimes rate is 85% below the national average, but is expected to increase based on trends. In 2010, there were a total of 541 incidents, but that number is expected to rise by more than 100. Property crimes are much more common, but are still much below the national average, at 46%.

In regards to motor accidents, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety reports a total of 23,182 accidents in the year 2008, with 6,493 injuries and 69 fatalities. Any personal injury, whether from motor accident or violence, needs to be dealt with by a Kennesaw lawyer from Kalka and Baer, LLC. We can help you claim money from both insurance companies and the third party who is at fault.
