Are Summer Heat Injuries Really That Serious?
Summer sun in Georgia can be brutal and has been the cause for many injuries in past summers. With temperatures reaching 100° F and humidity becoming so profuse, Georgians must be cautious while outdoors. Going for a ride on a motorcycle or bicycle could result in one of the three heat-related syndromes- heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.
- Heat Cramps: Painful muscle spasms from intense heat (and humidity)
- Heat Exhaustion: Where the body overheats and has trouble to function properly
- Heat Stroke: When the body temperature reaches 104° F or higher which can cause damage to the brain, heart, and kidneys
Please be careful as summer continues- take care of yourself while riding. Take precautions to avoid heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.
