In late 2010 and into early 2011 the Georgia Department of Public Safety ran a public awareness program that targeted commercial truck safety along interstate 75. The department noted that generally the most dangerous wrecks are those involving 18-wheelers. This awareness initiative was targeted at passenger vehicles as well as commercial trucks to help educate drivers of the two how to safely share the road. Officers were particularly watching for aggressive drivers who would follow cars or trucks too closely.
Part of the program also included the inspection of commercial vehicles. Officer cite notable accidents that included brakes failing on the commercial trucks or driver fatigue due to the excessive amount of time a driver spend on the road. The officers would check to make sure that the trucks are in working order and that the drivers are complying with the law.
