Driver Being Investigated After Crashing Bus While Under the Influence of Drugs

On the morning of Friday, March 2, 2018, a bus carrying 13 members of the West Georgia Technical College women’s basketball team crashed in Pulaski County.

The team was traveling to Rockville, Maryland to play against Montgomery College in the NJCAA Division III District Championship. At approximately 8:15 a.m. that morning, the driver allowed the bus to drift over into another lane, colliding with an 18-wheeler. Then, the driver ran the bus off the side of the road, overcorrected, then hit an embankment and flipped over.

According to a report by WSET, all 13 passengers were hurt in the crash, but there have been no casualties. However, all passengers were treated at Radford Hospital for various injuries and the championship game scheduled for March 4 was canceled.

The bus driver, Willie Walker, is currently under investigation by Virginia State Police. He is currently being charged with driving under the influence of drugs, as well as marijuana possession.
