On Saturday, April 9, 2011, a cyclist was hit by a vehicle on a Cobb County road around 6:30 a.m. According to authorities, the Georgia cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ernest Terrell Maxwell, the 43-year-old cyclist, of Austell, was riding his bicycle on Clay Road when he was hit. The vehicle that crashed into him did so from behind and then continued driving. The hit-and-run accident occurred eastbound on Clay Road near Warren Drive.

Maxwell was thrown from his bicycle and died as a result of the injuries sustained in this Cobb County bicycle accident.

Witnesses stated that there was damage to the right front of the vehicle, and that the driver continued driving eastbound toward Austell Road. They also indicated that the car that hit the cyclist was a silver 2002 to 2009 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. After they conducted a thorough inspection of the scene, Cobb County police suspected that the damage to the Chevrolet was to the bumper, fender, and headlight assembly.

Around 5 p.m. the same day, 37-year-old Brain A. Rolle, of Powder Springs, went into the Cobb County police precinct to report damage to his 2004 TrailBlazer. He told the police that he believed he hit something. Officials indicated that the damage to his car was consistent with the hit-and-run evidence they collected. Police arrested Rolle and charged him with hit-and-run, expired tags, and first degree vehicular homicide.
