One Teen Ejected in South Georgia Bus Accident

One Teen Ejected in South Georgia Bus Accident

On Sunday, April 10, 2011, a charter bus traveling north on Interstate 75 in South Georgia was involved in a serious crash. According to officials, the wreck took place around 3 p.m. at mile post 116, near Piecrust in Dooly County.

The bus was carrying 47 high school students from Gwinnett County who were on their way back home from a trip to Walt Disney World. Most of the students were from Mill Creek High School in Buford.

The crash occurred due to slowing traffic in a construction zone that caused a rear-end collision in front of the bus. One of the cars involved in the crash was sent into the median and overturned in the pathway of the bus. The bus driver swerved to miss the car, and the bus went up an embankment.

One person was ejected from the bus and then airlifted to a Macon hospital, but is in stable condition. Approximately 19 other students suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals in Dooly County as a precaution.

The bus sustained broken windows and damage, and the school was notified and sent another bus to the scene to collect the remaining students.

The accident took several hours to clean up and closed down two lanes of I-75.

There is no word on the medical conditions of those involved in the Georgia car crash that occurred in front of the bus.

Kalka & Baer would like to wish all of the students who were injured in this Georgia bus accident a full and speedy recovery.
