Motorcyclist Ejected in Georgia Hit-and-Run Crash

On Saturday, July 30, 2011, a serious Georgia motorcycle accident occurred, sending a 41-year-old motorcycle rider to the hospital with critical injuries. Police indicated that the crash took place at Lee Road and Georgia 60.

A Chevy Silverado pulling a bass boat collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle early in the morning. Both Tina McGlothlin, 41, and James McGlothlin, 47, of Murrayville, were traveling on the motorcycle at the time of the wreck.

According to James McGlothlin, he had to hit the brakes of the Harley to avoid making contact with the truck after he observed the truck failing to stop at a stop sign. Due to the impact, Tina McGlothlin was thrown from the bike.

Allegedly, 47-year-old Manual Spear, of Gainesville, drove his Silverado truck away from the scene. Although authorities said he did not go far, he still left the scene. When authorities questioned Spear, he told them that he did stop at the stop sign but that he thought he had time to cross the intersection before the motorcycle.

Tina McGlothlin, the motorcycle passenger, was taken by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for medical care. She sustained injuries to her lower extremities. Authorities indicated that she was wearing her helmet at the time of the crash.

James McGlothlin suffered upper extremity injuries, and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for medical treatment.

Spear was cited for failing to yield at an intersection, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, and obstruction of law enforcement officers. He was not injured in the crash.
