Bicycle Checklist Helps Reduce Cycling Accidents in Peachtree, GA

Bicycle Checklist Helps Reduce Cycling Accidents in Peachtree, GA

Many people feel that drivers of motor vehicles are often at fault for injuring bicyclists in car/bike crashes in Georgia. Although this belief is correct, there are many bicyclists who have been injured due to their own negligent actions.

Some cycling accidents in Peachtree City can be prevented by cyclists themselves. If you are a cyclist or know someone who commutes to work or school on a bicycle or rides for leisure, please share this bicycle check list.

Brakes: Check to see if the brakes are working properly and will stop the bike quickly. Make sure the brake cables and casings are secure and in good condition.

Spokes: Check the spokes to make sure they are in place and that they are unbroken. Tight spokes will make a high pitched noise when they are plucked.

Wheels: Make sure that the bike’s wheels are secure and that they spin correctly. Look to see if the wheel rims are round when spun and that the wheels do not wobble.

Tires: Check the tires for any bulges, bald spots, and cuts. Verify that the tires are firm and have good tread.

Chain: Find out if the chain has been lubricated and if it is in good condition. If the links are rusted, the chain should be replaced.

Pedals: Look to see if the pedals on the bike are secure and move properly. Also, make sure that the pedals have reflectors that are in good shape.

Lights: Verify that the bike has a white light in front and a red reflector in the rear. Lights should be visible from 300 feet away, and it is always a good idea to add more lights to make a bicycle visible in the dark.

If you have been injured in a Peachtree bicycle crash due to the fault of a driver, you may have rights to financial compensation for your damages, medical bills, lost wages and more
