On Thursday, January 6, 2011, a Georgia truck accident involving a large truck and a police patrol car occurred. Officials say that the police officer involved in this crash was seriously injured and airlifted to a local hospital for medical treatment.

On Thursday morning, Sgt. Clinton Nicholas, of Jonesboro, was driving behind a Department of Transportation truck for a road project when he was rear-ended. The accident took place on I-675 southbound, south of Anvil Block Road.

The truck involved in hitting this 38-year-old police officer was a five-ton box truck, driven by Nicolas Veasley, of Madison. Authorities believe that Veasley was following too closely and traveling too fast. This 32-year-old truck driver faces charges for severely injuring a Clayton County police officer. He has been charged with causing serious injury by vehicle and following too closely and too fast for conditions, said Gordy Wright, spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol.

Sgt. Nicholas was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, but is now listed in stable condition.

We send our thoughts to Sgt. Nicholas, and wish him a full and speedy recovery.
