Father Killed in Georgia Bicycle Accident during Ride with His Son

The Georgia "Better Bicycling Bill" that recently became law requires motor vehicle drivers to stay at least three feet away from bicycles when passing them on the road. However, just days after this improvement to the state's bicycle safety laws went into effect, a fatal Georgia bicycle accident occurred in Sandy Springs.

Sadly, a 52-year-old man was cycling with his son on July 4, 2011 when he was hit by a Toyota Camry on Roswell Road. Sandy Springs police said that the bicycle accident occurred near Hightower Trail around 7 a.m.

Emergency crews took Bryan Morgan, of Marietta, to North Fulton County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His 25-year-old son was not injured in the accident.

The 51-year-old female driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Morgan has not been charged at this time, and her name has not been released.

Sandy Springs police indicated that there are no bike paths on Roswell Road, but that there was very little traffic during that time of day. Police are still investigating this tragic accident.

Kalka & Baer would like to extend our sincere thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Morgan during this difficult time.
