Georgia Tech is in the middle of improving its bicycle infrastructure and
bicycle conditions on and around campus. These changes are being implemented
by the Bicycle Infrastructure Improvement Committee (BIIC), which is made
up of students and staff.
The BIIC was created because there has not been a group of individuals
focusing on bicycle-related improvements on campus. Although the committee
formed plans to improve bicycle safety back in January, these plans are
just now being implemented to make it easier for cyclists to bike to school.
Some students bike to school out of necessity, while others ride their
bikes around campus for their health and enjoyment. Whatever the case,
the Georgia Tech community is making improvements that Atlanta cyclists
can enjoy.
Additional bike racks are being added to the areas around the College
of Management, the Instructional Center, and the Ford Environmental Science
and Technology building. In addition, several bike lanes are being added
to Hemphill Avenue and Ferst Drive in the hopes of decreasing Atlanta
bicycle accidents and improving bicycle safety.
The group's goal is to have these bicycle safety improvements completed
by the start of the fall semester.
The BIIC has been hosting cycling classes with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition
and even supported the recently passed House Bill 101. Ultimately, the
group hopes to make bicycling in and around the Atlanta campus a much
safer experience.
The Kalka Law Group would like to congratulate the BIIC on its Atlanta bicycling safety efforts.
