DeKalb County Crash Kills Two, Injures Two

On October 16, 2011, a deadly DeKalb County crash killed two brothers and seriously injured a mother and daughter. According to officials, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday night.

This head-on crash involved a Corvette and an Acura. The two men inside the Chevrolet Corvette were brothers, and the two occupants inside the Acura were a mother and her 4-year-old daughter.

Police indicated that the Corvette was traveling north on Buford Highway at a very high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the car, crossing into southbound lanes of traffic. Raul Velazquez, the 23-year-old driver, and his passenger and brother, Abraham Velazquez, 22, both of Atlanta, died at the scene.

The brothers were sons of a local church's Spanish-language pastor. Initial investigations by the DeKalb police revealed that alcohol was not involved.

Denise Hudson, the 44-year-old driver of the Acura, of Williamson, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Atlanta Medical Center. Her daughter also suffered injuries and was taken in critical condition to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite.

On Tuesday, officials said that they expect the mother and daughter to survive.

We at Kalka & Baer are deeply saddened to hear of these fatal injuries. We send our condolences to those affected by this crash. We also would like to wish Denise Hudson and her daughter a full and speedy recovery.
