Teen Driver Kills Teacher in Atlanta Car Accident

On Monday, March 19, 2012, a tragic Atlanta car accident occurred that killed a teacher. Police have indicated that the crash took place Monday afternoon in rush hour traffic on Camp Creek Parkway, near Campbellton Road.

A teen driver has been blamed for the accident. According to reports, a red Honda driven by a teenage girl hit the teacher’s car and sent her into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. Officials identified the deceased as 40-year-old Shireen Haynes, of College Park. Investigators pronounced Ms. Haynes dead at the accident scene. She was a math teacher at Sandtown Middle School.

There were two other people in the Saturn traveling with the teacher. One of the passengers is reported to be another teacher at Sandtown Middle School and the other is her husband. They have been identified as Kay and James Price, and are both in critical condition.

It was reported that the teenager lost control of her car and crashed into the Saturn. The Saturn then spun across the median and was sent into an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The teen driver was charged with driving on restricted license, suspended registration, and failure to maintain her line. The teen and her mother may face vehicle homicide charges as well. The teenager did not have an adult in the car with her, which she was supposed to have, as she has a provisional license. Authorities reported that she had another teenager in the car with her at the time of the accident. The teenagers were reportedly not injured in this crash.

Sandtown Middle School had grief counselors on site to help teachers and students deal with the news of the fatal Atlanta accident.

Kalka & Baer would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and school students and staff of Shireen Haynes, and we would also like to wish Mr. and Mrs. Price a fast and full recovery.
