On the first Friday of the New Year, a school bus accident in southeast
Atlanta occurred sending the bus driver to the hospital. On Friday, January
6, 2012, a school bus went off the road just before 7:30 a.m.
According to the Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Keith Bromery, the Atlanta
Public School bus was transporting nine special needs students. “While
some of the students were shaken up by the accident, none were injured.”
The students were in route to Benteen and Centennial Place elementary
schools, Washington High School, and the Imagine Wesley International
Academy charter school Friday morning when the crash took place. Another
bus was sent to the scene to pick up the students and take them to their schools.
Officials said that the school bus went off the side of the road. The
bus ran off the road at Custer Avenue near Moreland Avenue, ramming through
an iron fence that surrounded the Manor V apartment complex.
A tenant at the apartment complex told the Atlanta Journal Constitution
that the crash sounded like a bomb, as it woke him from sleep. A sales
manager for the apartments told the newspaper that the bus driver “looked
like she banged her head pretty bad.”
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they transported the female
bus driver to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical treatment for her injuries.
However, no updates about her condition are known at this time.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of this crash.
The Kalka Law Group is glad that none of the children were injured in this
school bus accident
and would like to wish the bus driver a full and fast recovery.
