A fatal Atlanta car crash occurred Thursday, May 24, 2012, that claimed the life of an elderly Atlanta woman. A state trooper said the wreck occurred around 10:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 59 South.

According to the police, the fatal crash involved a U-Haul truck and car hauler driver of Houston. The 2007 Ford E 456 U-Haul truck was towing a 1988 Chevrolet van on the car hauler.

Unfortunately, two elderly individuals were riding inside the van that was being hauled. Neither of them was wearing a seat belt, and they were thrown from their seats at the time of the crash.

The trooper investigated the crash and indicated that Straker was not speeding, but he explained that the weight of the van on the trailer was too heavy and pushed the truck sideways when the U-Haul entered the S-curve.

The U-Haul driver allegedly steered into the skid, but the truck ended up getting away from her and she overcorrected. This caused the trailer to whip around in almost a 180-degree turn and threw the elderly individuals from their seats.

When the trooper arrived on the scene, he removed the elderly woman from the van and started CPR; however, she was pronounced dead at the accident scene at 10:24. She was taken to the Atlanta Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and Straker was not injured in the crash.

The Kalka Law Group would like to wish the elderly woman's husband who was also in the crash, strength to recover and get through this tragic time of losing his wife in this fatal Atlanta auto accident.
