Today's holiday of sorts- National Ride to Work Day- has been created by Ride to Work, a non-profit organization that advocates the use of motorcycles and scooters. And, with today being the 21st Annual International Motorcycle & Scooter National Ride to Work Day, we encourage motorcycles to be viewed as a fun, efficient mode of transportation.

Ride to Work Day offers motorcyclists an opportunity to participate and use the day as reminder to safely get involved and ride. Though, in turn, that raises our responsibility to remind motorists of safe and responsible driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offers several tips for drivers to help keep motorcyclists safe on our roadways. They include:

  • Always allow a motorcyclist the full lane width – never try to share a lane.
  • Look for motorcycles by always checking mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes in traffic, and before entering intersections.
  • Always signal your intentions before changing lanes or merging with traffic.
  • Allow more following distance – three or four seconds – when behind a motorcycle so the motorcyclist has enough time to maneuver or stop in an emergency.
  • Never tailgate. In dry conditions, motorcycles can stop more quickly than cars.
  • Never drive while distracted.

Motorcyclists can be at fault for some accidents. But, the majority of Atlanta motorcycle accidents are caused by negligent drivers.

The Kalka Law Group’s personal injury attorneys are experts in motorcycle crashes. We are here to help injured motorcyclists get full compensation.
