On Monday, February 20, 2012, a deadly accident occurred in Atlanta. This
two-vehicle crash took place very early Monday morning, just after midnight.
According to the Atlanta police, two people were injured and one person
was killed in this wreck.
The crash took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in southwest Atlanta.
Authorities indicated that a driver was traveling east on that street
with a passenger in her vehicle when she lost control of her car. At that
point, she crossed the double yellow line and hit a westbound Dodge Magnum head-on.
Ms. Sharnaye Williams, the driver who lost control of her car and crossed
the center line, hit and killed Ms. Tonika Daunte Clark, 30, of Atlanta,
a passenger in Dodge Magnum.
According to Atlanta Police Spokeswoman Kim Jones, Ms. Clark was pronounced
dead at the accident scene, as she was trapped inside the Dodge vehicle.
However, Mr. Kevin Houston, the driver of the Dodge, was transported to
Grady Memorial Hospital with a broken leg.
Ms. Williams, the driver who was at fault for the cross-over crash, was
also injured and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Police indicate that they believe the accident to be alcohol-related,
and Ms. Williams may face charges in this fatal crash. “It appears
alcohol and the weather conditions may have played a role in this accident,”
said Officer Jones.
