A cyclist was riding in the inside lane of the right-hand side of the
four-laned North Decatur Road near Willivee Drive when he was hit by a
driver. The driver of the Ford pickup who hit the Decatur cyclist was
traveling northbound at approximately 6:30 a.m. According to the AJC,
the 53 year-old cyclist was taken to a local hospital where he passed away.
A local witness stated that he heard a “loud boom”, and when
he went to look outside, he said that he saw a vehicle in the middle of
the road. A bit later, when he went outside, he said that he saw a body
underneath the truck.
The Decatur bike accident shut down the stretch of North Decatur Road
for a few hours, and the accident remains under investigation. No charges
have been filed at this point.
