Paul Williams once dominated the boxing ring, knocking opponents out. He even held a solid 41-and-2 record in the ring. Now, Williams is one of the approximately 270,000 Americans living with a spinal cord injury. The former welterweight and light middleweight champion Paul Williams was recently in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.

Marietta Police Department released a statement stating that Paul Williams was riding a sport motorcycle traveling east on South Marietta Parkway near Atlanta Rd., as reported by 11Alive.

Williams’ serious spine injury was a result of Williams riding the motorcycle “too fast for conditions”. The vehicle could not handle a curve in the road and skidded off the roadway into an embankment.

After the Marietta motorcycle crash, Williams was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he is currently being treated.

Doctors have told Williams that he probably will not walk again. Sadly, the trauma from the motorcycle accident crushed his spine, and he is paralyzed from the waist down. True to his fighter personality, the professional boxer said that he has his own plans to defy the doctor’s diagnosis and walk again.

“It’s all on me. I’m going to be walking, I know that. That’s how I feel,” Williams told 11Alive.

In the same phone interview, Williams was focused first on an upcoming fight that had to be pushed back. It seemed his mindset was optimistic. Williams said he did not feel worried about the future, only driven to get his body back to pre-accident condition.

Motorcycle accidents are clearly scary and can have dangerous impacts on the people involved in the accident. Marietta motorcycle lawyers at The Kalka Law Group caution riders to heed traffic laws and suggestions.

Motorcycle crashes often result in head, spine, and skin trauma. Spine trauma generally is severe, but there can be instances where the vertebral column is badly damaged but the spinal cord is spared. For example, an injury in the lower back or pelvis region may not damage the spinal cord as badly as an injury to the upper back or neck area. It all depends on the level of injury.

Spinal cord injury is an awful result from a motorcycle crash. If you or someone you love has been in a Marietta motorcycle crash and is facing spine injury of some sort, please seek legal advice with The Kalka Law Group.
