On Monday, May 7, 2012, a Georgia car crash occurred involving a car driving
through a home. According to authorities, the crash occurred around 1:30
p.m. on Monday afternoon on Cedar Mill Crossing and Catawba Drive in Cherokee County.
Gordy McDowell, the homeowner, was at work in Atlanta when the car came
barreling through his house and backyard. He received a phone call from
one of his neighbors to let him know of the crash and the damage to his home.
Due to the wreck, tools, insulation, a Jet Ski, and all sorts of personal
belongings were strewn throughout McDowell’s backyard.
When the car crashed through the Cherokee County house, the driver was
ejected from the car. When Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies arrived
on the accident scene, the driver was found alert and responsive and talking
to paramedics. However, the 36-year-old driver appeared to have several injuries.
Investigators are hoping to speak with the driver to find out exactly
what went wrong, as they are unsure whether the driver blacked out or
if the vehicle had a mechanical failure.
Although no one was home during the Cherokee County car crash, McDowell’s
two dogs were seen running away from the scene. One of the dogs has been
found, but Dixie, a brown, medium-sized dog, is still missing.
McDowell is just glad that no one was killed in the crash. “Everybody’s
OK, and that’s the best part,” he said.
The Kalka Law Group would like to wish the driver a full and fast recovery.
