Understanding Auto Accidents Find Out If You May Be Entitled to Compensation

Car Accidents May Lead to Pelvic Fractures

Another car can crash into yours in a moment's notice, such as when a tire blows on a car, a driver runs a red light, or a drunk driver is behind the wheel. Such serious car accidents leave telltale traces of evidence at the scene. Marks on the road and damage to the cars involved help police investigators piece together how the car accident happened. Now, Macon police have another instrument to help figure out what was happening inside car.

A black box is a data retrieval system, most commonly referenced as in airplane black boxes used when investigating plane crashes. Newer car models are manufactured with computerized panels that control air bags, brakes, power train, etc.- measuring data constantly. Traffic Facility Investigator Austin Riley told The Macon Telegraph that the black box will record such data when the computer senses that the car is about to crash.

The system is new to police who can now use the black box determine the speed of the car, how much pressure was on the gas pedal, when the brakes were activated and whether seat belts were being worn, according to Riley. These types of Georgia car accidents often produce serious and critical injuries.

One type of injury that occurs in violent car crashes is a pelvic fracture. Car accidents can range in severity from minor to severe. Oftentimes in severe crashes, seatbelts pull so tightly around the waists of drivers and passengers that they can fracture the pelvis.

Victims will most likely experience the following in the pelvic bone area:

  • Tingling and numbness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising or tenderness
  • Discomfort and pain of the upper thighs

The pelvis is made up of five bones, including the coccyx, sacrum, pubis, ilium, and ischium. It protects a person's internal organs. When this circular bone structure or any of these five bones are damaged, organs inside the body may be damaged as well.

After a car accident, it is important to seek medical care, even if you are only experiencing slight discomfort. Because pelvic fractures vary according to the severity of the crash and where the break is located, the pain and discomfort of victims can vary as well.
